vanilla or butter cake for decorating  
hi folks

does anyone have any never fail butter or vanilla cake recipes to use for decorating?

i can never seem to make vanilla cakes that are light and fluffy rather than dense or too crumbly!

Adding a few tablespoons of applesauce to your recipe (and reducing other liquid accordingly) is a good way to keep cake moist and non-crumbly. Most of my cakes use 3 to 4Tb of it. Also, try beating your batter with an electric whisk to get it full of air before baking. That may fluff things up.
